The underlying premise that shapes the Business and Technology Education Department is that every student eventually earns a living and interfaces in a work environment.

Emphasis is placed on attaining marketable skills and acquiring the knowledge needed to function in today’s ever-changing technological society. Stress is equally placed on the encouragement of professional attitudes and the development of Christian values so as to form ethical adults who, with courage, confidence and commitment, make a contribution to courses. Courses are designed to meet divergent student needs.

610 Technology Applications I – Track 2, Grade 9, 0.5 Credit

This course introduces the student to the school’s technology. The curriculum is a dynamic, hands-on program of study that teaches about the development, applications and effects technology has on individuals, society and the government. The curriculum is delivered through an articulated series of design and problem-solving activities that teaches the student how to think and how to learn.

81 Technology Applications II – Track 2, Grade 11/12, 1 Credit

This course is designed to help develop knowledge and skills in utilizing the computer to manipulate and process information and data using Microsoft Office 2000 programs and the Windows 2000 environment. Students will learn correct techniques using Word 2000, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint at an advanced level. Internet Research techniques will be covered all year.

622 Accounting I, Track 2, Grade 11/12, 1 Credit

The goal of this class is to provide practical learning experience of the real business world and the important role Accounting plays in business operations. The course focus will include the role accounting plays in the operation of various enterprises, how accounting determines the efficiency and profitability of a business, the accounting cycle for both a sole proprietorship and corporation, accounting process and business transactions, and the relationship of financial statements.

642 Personal Finance, Track 2, Grade 11/12, 0.5 Credit

The goal of this class is to provide an introduction to the world of money management and basic financial and economic concepts for survival. The course focus is the determination of one’s financial goals, financial options, financial plan, the relationship between career planning and financial fulfillment, ways to assess one’s current financial situation, financial responsibilities, financial service, and various types of financial institutions.

643 Business Law, Track 2, Grade 11/12, 0.5 Credit

The goal of this class is to provide practical learning experiences of the law and how it influences the business world and one’s personal life. The course focus is the legal system, the dynamic nature of the law, the social impact of legislation and legal decisions, the legal environment of business and personal transactions, the legal consequences of decision-making, and the rights and duties of citizens, consumers, workers, and business owners.

632 Marketing, Track 2, Grade 11/12, 0.5 Credit

The goal of this class is to introduce students to marketing and to encourage them to understand how all areas of effective marketing strategy affects the success of an organization. Students will learn the economic, the human resource, and the marketing and business foundations necessary to compete in a global marketplace. Through the student of domestic and international organizations, the students will gain an in-depth understanding of how the three areas impact an organization when competing in a market economy within the global marketplace.

645 Desktop Publishing/PowerPoint, Track 2, 11/12, 0.5 Credit

The goal of this course is to give the student opportunity to plan, design and implement presentations in various formats: newspapers, PowerPoint presentations, project ideas, etc. The course integrates material from other departments and allows the student to apply skills from this class to the practical needs of other classes.
