What is the KK Core Curriculum?
The program features expanded on-campus, and elective courses from area Catholic colleges and universities. It also provides college preparation courses for all students, with particular emphasis on PSAT and SAT preparation.
What Catholic schools and universities are partnering with KKCHS?
Currently, KK Partners include St. Joseph’s University, LaSalle University, Immaculata University, Neumann College, Chestnut Hill College, Gywnedd-Mercy College
Is there any additional cost to participate in this program?
No. This is a core program for all KK students.
What is the KK Scholars Program?
The KK Scholars Program includes all the basic elements of the Core Curriculum but also offers an accelerated track for the top 20 students.
What exactly defines the accelerated program?
There are three specific elements to this program:
- All courses in mathematics, science and world language will be accelerated to enable students to complete diocesan/state requirements in fewer semesters.
- AP courses will begin in sophomore year (currently these courses begin junior year).
- All qualified students in the accelerated program will enroll in college courses offered by area Catholic colleges and universities during senior year.
Is there an additional cost to send students to these colleges and universities?
Once again, there is no additional cost for this program.
How is eligibility for the KK Scholars Program determined?
Seventh and eighth grade Terra Nova scores, final report cards and teacher evaluations determine if a student is eligible to apply for the program. Once all applications have been received, Kennedy-Kenrick awards placement to the top 20 incoming freshmen students.
How many college credits could a senior graduate with?
A student who takes the full complement of AP courses and participates fully in the on-campus program could graduate with up to 30 college credits. At the very minimum a student will earn 12 credits.
What are the minimum requirements to remain in the program?
A Kennedy-Kenrick student must maintain an 85 general average as well as earn the continued recommendation from faculty members.
Can a student choose to take elective classes from more than one college or university?
Yes. A student is not limited to choice of schools, nor is he or she limited to a certain discipline. Kennedy-Kenrick encourages its students to take various electives in order to explore their interests and stimulate career choices.
